Now, something completely different.
Looking at my posting history, most people would probably think I'm your fairly run of the mill indie kid. Old enough to remember Madchester, too young to identify with it, Britpop happening at the age where beer becomes a option, that kind of thing. In many ways, you'd be right, but that doesn't mean I don't like other music too.
In fact, probably more important than britpop - which of course I've gone on about at length on this blog, so it's time to stop flogging that particular horse for a while - is what sprung up in the aftermath. While there were still plenty of good bands around there were more and more like Cast, Space & Ocean Colour Scene which was enough to send a fellow running for something else to listen to.
Being around Glasgow ten or so years ago meant finding something else was easy, you had Mogwai, Arab Strap and The Delgados popping up around that time, for example. But still, there was more. And so it was that Jim discovered dance music.
No, not the mass produced shite that continues to clog up the UK charts, different stuff, good stuff!
Venturing out of the comfort zone of the NME *spit* and Select Magazine to read DJ, Muzik and my favourite, Jockey Slut.
Cutting a long story short, Bugged Out is a club that sprang out of Jockey Slut magazine and even though the mag is long gone, the club continues.
Oh, and I wasn't alone, as Samir shows (ages ago admittedly).
Not everything on this compilation is to my liking, but there are some genuine classics in there. Remove your blinkers and dive in, it can't hurt.
