Ok, you may know the story of this album already. It's been knocking around in a couple of different forms since December last year, so you may even have already heard it, but pay attention anyway.
Grinderman is Nick Cave, Warren Ellis, Martyn Casey and Jim Sclavunos. They got together back in February 2006 for a five day session, emerging with hours of raw material. In April the four went back into the studio for a week, reworking that material into 13 great songs. After mixing, eleven songs were picked for the album.
As mentioned, somewhere around December of last year the first leaks of the album started to come out. I held off posting the earlier leaks, for the reason that they were generally poor quality transcodes. If you've seen this album posted somewhere at 320kbs, you've been done, it's transcoded from 128kbs WMA files. Even then, the leaks don't seem to have been from the finished album. Most contain the previously mentioned 13 songs, not the final 11 that make up the album.
Don't get me wrong, they were great to hear, but still, they weren't the finished article.
This however is a long awaited rip from an advance copy of the CD. No transcodes, no rips from Myspace, no monitor mixes.
It might not last long, so grab it while you can, then buy the album when it hits in March.
If you were one of the people who though Nick Cave had no more tricks up his sleeve, then listen to this and come back to me and see if you have the same opinion. You were wrong to think that in the first place of course, but everyone is entitled to an opinion, even one that is misguided...
