With New Order having recently announced that they are to split (go grab their last gig from KiDG, and get some Joy Division Peel Sessions while you are at it) now seems like a good time to dish out an early Christmas present in the form of this, a massive 5 disc box set.
It's not a perfect compilation (unlike the Joy Division box, Heart & Soul, which is a perfect box set. Look in the comments for that.) The discs all follow a theme and were selected by a friend of the band, except the fifth, bonus disc, which has some rare stuff on it.
Miranda Sawyer's choice is the most obvious and as such perfect for the New Order beginner. John McCready's choices are a bit more offbeat while Mike Pickering reclaims some of the credibility thrown to the wind with M People by picking out a good dancefloor selection.
Bobby Gillespie can of course do no wrong in my eyes, so his disc, Live, is my favourite.
